Family Driven Faith excerpt: Marriage is a gift from God!

Excerpted from Voddie Baucham's excellent book Family Driven Faith. I've been reading it this week. I highly recommend it.

R. Albert Mohler, president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, set off a firestorm in August 2005 when he told a radio audience: "The sin that I think besets this generation ... is the sin of delaying marriage as a lifestyle option among those who intent some day to get married but they just haven't yet."

...

As I travel across the country, I am amazed at the number of intelligent, Jesus-loving, Bible-toting, ministry -minded young men who absolutely refuse to grow up and take a wife! It is as though there was a new book of the Bible discovered (I call it 2 Hesitations) that reads "Thou shalt not marry prior to graduate school, or at least until you have a middle-class income and a 401(k)."

...

The young men and women I meet actually believe there is something out there that they need to experience before they dive into the deep, dark, oppressive world of marriage. For some it is traveling to Europe or Africa. Others want to spend time on the mission field first. Still others believe there is some magic age at which one automatically become "ready" for marriage. Whatever the case may be, it is a far cry from the biblical admonition, "He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor form the Lord" (Proverbs 18:22)."

Well spoken, Mr. Baucham. I'll also add that the script repeatedly speaks of the "wife of your youth." E.g., Proverbs 5:18—Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

How will you rejoice in the wife of your youth if you wait well past your youth to marry?
